We had a delicious dinner at Laura’s home. Matt and Erin made some jalapeño hush puppies.

A wonderful day for all of us. We missed Mark, but am happy he will be home for Christams.

Busy days in Bangkok

I have been keeping very busy while in Bangkok. Tried a new funky style on my nails.

Yesterday I was a tourist seeing some sights in Bangkok with my Thai friend Mod who I met while on my trip on Mongolia.
She took me down to the river, which was pretty high this time of year.

We visited a few temples to see the golden Buddha statutes.

20131010-220017.jpg
This Buddha was discovered after the plaster was chipped away.

20131010-220131.jpg
I learned there are three important items at each temple. Candles, incense, and marigold flowers.

20131010-220257.jpg
We tried these tasty treats.

20131010-220420.jpg
Delicious coconut light colored ones, along with the orange salmon ones.

20131010-220610.jpg
It was interesting to watch this lady do a one woman show with carrying her supplies and then mixing them up.

20131010-220932.jpg
We went to China town, and were able to see a parade to celebrate vegetarian week.

20131010-221213.jpg
In the evening we toured the bustling flower market, to see aisles of marigold flowers.

20131010-221407.jpg
Also lots of orchids.

Mod bought me some gardenias to enjoy for our last couple days here.

Today I was a tour guide as I showed a couple of Mark’s Mongolian co-workers around Bangkok. My first time going alone on the sky train, and I managed to show them 3 malls. I treated myself to some banana toast afterwards.

I have been so busy, that I am ready for a vacation.

Lunch with Thai co-workers

This afternoon we invited 14 of Mark’s Thai co-workers over for an American lunch.

20130914-194615.jpg
Mark barbecued some pork chops, and steak which they enjoyed.

20130914-194715.jpg
They also liked the mashed potatoes, and fresh salad.

20130914-194825.jpg
Mark has a new American co-worker, so it was great to have Dennis along with his wife Rhonda come over.

Everyone enjoyed the sweet chocolate cake, and peanut butter fudge.

Time to go home

Matt and I flew home last week, to visit mom and dad since they are getting old.
We had a fun time visiting with lots of relatives.

20130430-201228.jpg
Mom got her Mother’s Day gift early since we were there.

20130430-201321.jpg
We were able to visit Theresa at school which was nice to see.

20130430-201432.jpg
Mom had a great time sharing family history with Andrew, Jamie and Matt.

20130430-201619.jpg
Matt and I had a chance to visit with Jamie’s cat Ally. I think she was ready to come home with us.

20130430-201811.jpg
Since there was not a Purdy’s candy store near by we had to stock up with other Canadian chocolate.

I liked this pic of mom with Jamie and Matt.

Kinder chocolate

The whole family was together on the weekend, so we let Matt open the Kinder egg.

When I read the fine print, I could see why they are not sold in the US. They don’t want little children chocking on the small parts.

A fun delicious surprise.

Trip to Canada

Mark had to make a quick trip to BC Canada, so I said I would ride along.
Our first stop in Idaho. The Blizzard and burger were delicious.

20130408-215019.jpg
We drove thru Washington which was beautiful.

20130408-215137.jpg
Many many orchards.

20130408-215240.jpg
We made it to Canada.

20130408-215322.jpg
I had to check out this store.

20130408-215356.jpg
This was our free gift at the hotel.

20130408-215454.jpg
A first for me to see digital price codes.

20130408-215544.jpg
I have never seen these flavors for popcorn, pickle, ketchup

I am having a super great time.

Fast food

I have been home for a week, and really felt like some Wendy’s chili.

Boy, did it taste good.

Indian restaurant for dinner

Yesterday we went out to a very nice Indian restaurant in town. The food and the company was great.

Mongolian barbecue

Our weather is warming up (around 0), so we thought we should pull out our new barbecue. We bought it in Beijing before we moved here, so Mark spent an hour assembling it.

barbecueWe also went shopping and found a few good looking T bone steaks.

20130303-122807.jpg

Also found some fresh bok choy.

We just needed to fill our propane tank which turned out to be quite an experience. We bought the American style tank here and were told we could get it filled with no problems. After driving all over town, and stopping at 3 places, and hearing it was not possible to fill because it did not have the correct nozzle, Mark called a few friends, and we headed home. We were almost home when he received a call to say that the one place we had visited would do it, but we would have to leave it over night.  Who knows why they didn’t tell us that when we were there the first time.

Hopefully they will taste as good when we barbecue them.

Sweet treats from Thailand

Yesterday Mark brought home these treats from his Thai boss. We were not sure what was inside.

20130226-200820.jpg

We were pleasantly surprised to find the nice fresh strawberry inside surrounded by a green tea filling and a nut flavoring.

20130226-201244.jpg

We found out that they only make them for a couple weeks a year, so we were lucky that a Thai person was visiting Mongolia this week.
