Local Mongolian artist

Yesterday a meeting was set up at a local gallery, so we could meet an artist.
He is in his 70’s and suffers from Parkison disease.
I purchased a painting of the ger district which is downtown, and looks like this with the smoke.

He then signed the watercolor painting for me.

Another exciting experience living here.

One footed Westie

Laura just sent this pic of Westie. From crawling he was able to get one foot out of his sleeper.

A day out in the countryside

Today a group of us took the 90 minute drive out to Sera’s ger camp.

20140218-205708.jpg
Most of the ladies ride horses, but a few of us came to go for a hike in the fresh air. You can see the horses behind me.

20140218-205824.jpg
Mark has a new driver Tolga, who can speak English so it was easy to give him directions to the place.

20140218-205957.jpg
We climbed the hill and found some snow.

20140218-210057.jpg
Off in the distance you can see the Genghis Khan statute.

20140218-210319.jpg
We reached the top, and circled the monument 3 times.

20140218-210453.jpg
We then went inside to warm up and eat.

20140218-210537.jpg
How appropriate for the Canadian flag to be behind me.

My sweet little Westie turned 9 months old on Valentine’s Day.

Westie always seems to be happy.

Helping at the orphanage

Today a few of us went to the orphanage to do some volunteer work.

20140214-130755.jpg
They loved the necklaces they made out of beads.

My Westie is crawling.

Laura is keeping busy now that Westie is crawling and getting into a few things. She had to pin up the curtains.

20140211-202232.jpg
He gets into the kitchen drawers.

20140211-202331.jpg
He likes to pull himself up and play with the towels.

20140211-202439.jpg
I think he will be walking soon.

Ancient Siam

Yesterday I toured the city of Ancient Siam which is an hour drive from Bangkok.

20140205-164446.jpg
The park is huge, so I am glad my friend Mod had a car to drive us around. There are over 120 temples.

20140205-164703.jpg
I had phad Thai for lunch. It was delicious.

20140205-164841.jpg
They mixed the ice cream with peanuts and sticky rice.

20140205-164954.jpg
Years ago Bangkok was all canals.

20140205-165145.jpg
I learned that most of the houses were built on stilts that were near the water.

20140205-165358.jpg
Each home would have water jugs out front for visitors upon arrival could help themselves to some water.

20140205-165538.jpg
A big water jug out front to wash your feet.

20140205-165659.jpg
Some homes still have fighting chickens.

20140205-165800.jpg
The temples represent bigger temples that are found in Thialand.

20140205-165953.jpg

20140205-170045.jpg
We climbed many steps to reach this temple. The windows are lined up perfectly.

20140205-170242.jpg
It was hot climbing the steps.

20140205-170511.jpg

20140205-170601.jpg
The following center was beautiful.

He received this snake at an Italian restaurant.

20140202-220828.jpg

20140202-220845.jpg
He will soon be 9 months old, and is starting to crawl.

Loving Bangkok

Mark found out he had to go to Bangkok for a week of meetings, so I came along for the ride. The first time we are in Bangkok with no rain, so less humidity. We enjoyed our first snack when we arrived, as the orange juice was delicious.

20140202-213154.jpg
I went for a swim this morning, and my snowflake toes are wondering about swimming outdoors.

20140202-213301.jpg
The flowers around the pool are beautiful.

20140202-213346.jpg

20140202-213414.jpg

20140202-213437.jpg
We rode around on the BTS, so we could see some protests going on at a few intersections.

20140202-213603.jpg

20140202-213632.jpg
Looks like one big concert.

20140202-213731.jpg
After a wonderful foot massage, we went for a Thai fusion dinner. I love the tiny chicken wings.

20140202-213840.jpg
How about ham and cheese egg rolls.

20140202-213923.jpg
Then to Swenson’s for ice cream.

20140202-214017.jpg
Mark enjoyed shopping.

20140202-214057.jpg
I love coming to Bangkok.
